Air Fryer Whole Sweet Potatoes | Fluffy Sweetness
There aren’t many things easier to make than Air Fryer Whole Sweet Potatoes. And they’re a great alternative to white potatoes (I’ll get to that in a minute.)
Why I Love This Recipe
- Fast – Making air fryer whole sweet potatoes takes less time than in the oven.
- Healthy – These baked spuds are loaded with fiber, vitamin A and vitamin C. They are every bit as satisfying as white potatoes, but better for you, making them a very good alternative.
- Tasty – There’s nothing like digging into a steamy, crispy on the outside – fluffy on the inside pocket of sweetness that’s actually good for you!
Do I Need to Pierce the Potato in the Air Fryer?
The short answer is yes you should pierce air fryer whole sweet potatoes. The longer answer is I’ve tried it both ways – piercing and not piercing.
I used to think potatoes didn’t need to be pierced before baking or air frying. Boy was I wrong! It took me twice to learn the lesson, but trust me on this one.
If you don’t want a huge, exploded, baked on mess in your air fryer, pierce the potato! You’ll thank me for that.
How Long Does a Sweet Potato Take in an Air Fryer
A whole sweet potato in the air fryer takes between 20-40 minutes. Yes, that’s a huge range, but you’ll be an expert at picking the right time in no time.
- Small – 20 minutes. These are the potatoes that are slightly larger than the palm of your hand. Most stores don’t usually stock very small sweet potatoes, but you’ll often find them in organic grocery stores.
- Medium – 30 minutes. This is the most common size found in standard grocery stores. They measure about the size of your hand. These are my favorite for air frying sweet potatoes.
- Large – 40 minutes. The large sweet potatoes usually make an appearance around Thanksgiving and are great for making my Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes. But they’re not my favorite for air fryer baked sweet potatoes.
