Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats – Easy Camping Breakfast

Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats – Easy Camping Breakfast

We RVers spoke. They at Instant Pot listened. The Instant Pot has become a “must-have” for many RVers, and for good reason. It makes cooking super easy. It doesn’t heat up your RV kitchen. The meals that can be made with it are virtually endless. And it’s easy to clean. (Pretty much fits my motto… Keep it Simple. Keep it Tasty. Keep it Easy to Clean.) And you can even make these creamy, hearty, wholesome Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats in less than 30 minutes! I’m talking the real McCoy. Flavorful, thick, chewy, real Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats that don’t require you to stand over a hot stove and stir for an hour.

But… The Instant Pot can be a bit big and clunky to drag to and from your RV. And we all know how hard it is to find a place to store anything in an RV, let alone something big and clunky. Well, guess what guys!! They’ve done it! The Instant Pot Duo Mini is finally here! And the nice folks at Instant Pot were kind enough to send me one to try out so I could see if it’s a good fit for my readers.Instant Pot Vertical Kitchen

Um. No brainer there. It’s everything you want and nothing you don’t! Perfect for the RVer – full-time or weekend warrior. Yes, it’s still the wondrous 7 in 1 pressure cooker that puts out everything from hard boiled eggs to carnitas to beef stew to perfect rice to cake (yes, even cake), but the Instant Pot Duo Mini is nice and compact – easy to move, easy to store. Perfect for making all that deliciousness for up to 4 people!

For those of you new to the Instant Pot (what took you so long??), these Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats are a great example of the magic of the machine. Put in the ingredients. Set it and forget it. Give it a good stir, then serve it up. So easy! Gone are the days of simmering and stirring endlessly.

How to Make Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats

Toss Steel Cut Oats into the Instant Pot. Pour in water, salt, butter, and brown sugar. Stir well. Close lid (make sure vent is closed) set on manual time for 12 minutes. It will take about 5 minutes for the Instant Pot to build pressure, then the timer will begin. After the timer reaches zero, let the pressure “naturally release” (which is a fancy way of saying let it sit for another 12 minutes). Open the vent, open the lid, stir well and serve with your favorite toppings. Yum!

My favorite Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats toppings are dried cranberries and slivered almonds, but it’s delicious with brown sugar, a bit of cream, and fresh blueberries in the summer. Maple syrup is always a hit too! Just top to your heart’s content. It will keep you full and satisfied for hours so you can enjoy all your camping activities!

Instructions
  1. Put Oats, Brown Sugar, Butter, Salt, and Water into Instant Pot. Stir. Close lid and make sure the vent is set to "sealing." Press the Manual or Pressure Cook button and adjust the timer to 12 minutes. Instant Pot will pressurize then the countdown timer will begin.
  2. After the timer reaches zero, DO NOT release the steam valve yet. Let it "naturally release" its pressure for 10-12 minutes. Then release the remaining steam by turning the pressure valve to "venting." Once steam has escaped, remove the lid. Stir oatmeal until desired consistency then serve in individual bowls with dried cranberries and slivered almonds. (or whatever toppings you like.) Clean up is a breeze! Enjoy!

Hi Carol. Thanks for reaching out. There is a full recipe at the bottom of the post that includes all the ingredients and the amounts. Also, at the top of the post is a "jump to recipe" button that will take you all the way down to the bottom and straight to the recipe. I hope that helps! Heather
