Hydration – Win the Battle. And Win a Trip!

It really is a battle. Summertime hydration. There are two types of people in this world. Those who love to drink water and those who avoid it at all costs! I’m the former. My sister is the latter. I’m sure she gets sick of me constantly hounding her about drinking more water. But here’s the ultimate truth…. there’s actually only one type of person in this world – those who need proper hydration. Yep. It’s true. Everyone needs to stay hydrated. Everyone. Hydration is even more important in the summertime. Especially when participating in the many wonderful outdoor activities that make summer summer! Camping, boating, backpacking, picnicking, traveling… all fantastic activities. But they’re also all activities that can cause a bit of a problem for proper hydration. Let’s get back to my sister and her drinking problem (not drinking enough water, that is. I’m not sure what you were thinking I meant…) She says drinking water is boring. I beg to differ. I’m thinking this fruit infused DASANI water is actually pretty cool. It looks cool. It smells cool. And it actually stays cool (if you use my ice strategy that you can find here.) Boring, shmoring. No way! And it actually encourages those “non water drinkers” to get and stay hydrated. So when you head out camping and picnicking, make sure to bring along some DASANI, a bit of extra sliced fruit (and those big huge ice cubes), toss them into a fun looking tumbler and sit back and watch everyone drink it up! We also participate in some of the more strenuous summertime activities and proper hydration is even more of a problem. Backpacking, hiking, and even sailing. These are all very physical activities and require a little extra boost in the hydration department. That’s when I turn to Powerade Zero. It’s got everything you need (electrolytes, fluid replacement, and great taste), and nothing you don’t (sugar that will weigh you down). And guess what? My sister will actually drink this stuff! But I’ve gotta get serious for just a minute here… Lack of hydration is serious. It will make you sick and it kills people every year. However you choose to stay hydrated, just make sure to do it. It is critical to your mind and body and your overall health. You want to enjoy your summertime activities, don’t you? Then stay hydrated!!

Important Tips For Proper Hydration

  • Start off well-hydrated. Drink a full 8 oz. of water before you start any activity. The DASANI 12 oz. bottles make this easy.
  • Don’t let yourself get thirsty. If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Stay ahead of the ball.
  • Bring 50% more water than you think you’ll need.
  • Make sure to pack fluid with electrolytes when doing strenuous activities (Powerade Zero is my first choice).
  • Sip frequently throughout the day. It’s more effective than guzzling after you’re already low on hydration.

I always seem to forget that if I'm thirsty I'm already dehydrated. It's a good reminder to keep on top of my fluid intake. {client}

Yes! It's a real issue especially here in AZ. People come from out of town and have no idea how easy it is to get dehydrated. Best drink up BEFORE you get thirsty! :)
