Game Day Food Even When Camping
Fall camping can cause a bit of a dilemma. It’s definitely my favorite time of year to camp – beautiful, sunny, mild days are capped off by cool, crisp evenings sitting by a roaring campfire as we watch the stars pinprick the evening sky. Fall is also football season. I love football. My hubby loves football. Pretty much my entire family loves football (If you read this post featuring different foods representing each team from last year’s football playoffs, then you already know this.) What’s a girl to do?? Camping? Or football? Here’s an idea… we can do both! At the same time! (To be fair, this only works if you actually go “glamping” like we often do. Gotta have a TV with at least a digital antennae that is within range, a source of power, and enough Game Day Food to keep everyone happy!)
So that’s what we do. We load up the RV and hit the road for a weekend of beautiful fall camping, but make sure to stay within the antennae’s range (like at this amazing Arizona State Park ). I prep and pack plenty of game day food so we can make it through Saturday’s college games and Sunday’s pro games. It’s a win-win. We all gather around the RV tv, yell and scream at refs who make bad calls, grab a handful of awesome football food and a cold beer, and have a great day. Then cozy up in a hoodie and fuzzy slippers as we cluster near the blazing campfire to watch the sun go down and the stars pop out.
Hawaiian Roll Ham and Cheese Sliders – Perfect Game Day Food!
You all know my camping food motto by now – Keep it Tasty. Keep it Simple. Keep it Easy to Clean. This is even more important when it comes to making great game day food when we’re out camping. I don’t want to miss out on any of the game time fun! One of the tastiest, simplest to make, and easiest to clean game day food dishes is Hawaiian Roll Ham and Cheese Sliders. Yum! Soft fluffy Hawaiian rolls filled with delicious ham and cheese, brushed with a butter and Worcestershire glaze, popped into an oven, or toasted on a grill (you should check out my absolutely
Soft fluffy Hawaiian rolls filled with delicious ham and cheese, brushed with a butter and Worcestershire glaze, popped into an oven, or toasted on a grill (you should check out my absolutely favorite camping grill here. It’s the best!!), or warmed up in a bed of hot camping coals…. Yum! Yum! (Did I already say Yum!??) So how easy is it? (If you want something to do with these, try this delicious fresh steamed broccoli foil pack or how about these Cinnamon S’Mores for dessert?)
- Get a pack of those awesome Hawaiian rolls (you might need two if you’re feeding a crowd)
- Take the whole pack out and slice them all in half in one large slicing motion. Place all the bottoms in a disposable pan (like these)
- Layer deli ham and sliced provolone cheese on top of the roll bottoms
- Top with the tops of the rolls and drizzle with the butter/Worcestershire glaze and bake for 20 minutes.
Now that’s easy! And delicious. And a real crowd pleaser. These Hawaiian Roll Ham and Cheese Sliders offer the ultimate solution to combining fall camping with fall football for a perfect weekend of sports, the great outdoors, and amazing game day food.

It looks is delicious ,personally I love this ,Thanks for sharing valuable information for it
These were delicious and a new fave in our house! I only used the roll, ham, cheese and butter, covered with foil and warmed them on the campfire! So easy! Since then they are regulars in our house and I just pop them in the microwave and butter the top when they came out.
DO you think these would be okay to make them night before, then warm them on the grill at the camp site?
Hey Jenelle! I haven’t done that, but I think it would be just fine. My only suggestion would be to cover it with plastic wrap (rather than foil) overnight so the bread doesn’t dry out. Then use foil when heating them up! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
What if you don’t have a camp oven or one in the rv? How long on the grill, and do you need to turn them?
Hey Vicki! If you don’t have a camp oven, then I would do it in a Dutch oven. Just make sure to put hot coals on the lid when you close it. Leave them in the dutch oven for 20 min. You should not need to turn them! Enjoy!
You can put them on the grill, indirect heat. Just long enough to heat through and melt the cheese. you can wrap in foil and place the foil packet on a cookie sheet.
Yep! That should do the trick!
